Barre Classes

Over the years, Flourish Wellness has diversified its class offerings to keep our members challenged, but also to ensure they're exercising holistically throughout the week. Here's a look at the different classes we offer at the studio to suit your ability or workout style. 

We often say in class that the longer you come to Barre with Flourish, the harder it becomes! Don’t be fooled, you’ll be getting fitter and stronger week to week, but you will also become savvier! Practice makes perfect. The more regularly you attend classes, the more mobile and stronger you will become. 

We recommend attending 3 classes a week for the full benefits and results.

Prenatal Barre - 8 week series

Description

Prenatal Barre is a low-impact, moderate-intensity exercise class that empowers expectant mums by allowing them to safely and effectively stay in shape.

Who is this class for?
Do you enjoy being in a small class (maximum of 10 participants) with varied sessions and an experienced instructor? Are you interested in low-impact, moderate-intensity exercises to help keep fit, healthy and energised during pregnancy? Would you like at home stretch and strengthening guides? If you answered yes to the above, Prenatal Barre might be the right fit for you.

This class is a special 8 week series that can be done alongside or as a standalone from our regular barre classes.

Barre Basics

Description

Barre Basics fuses ballet barre (French for 'bar') conditioning exercises with Pilates, yoga, and functional, body-weight training. Although the classes are based on dance movement, dance experience isn't a necessity to take part in the classes at all!

Each person can be challenged at his or her own level without affecting anyone else’s workout. We incorporate using your own body weight as resistance, combined with small hand weights, bands and the ballet barre to perform high repetitions which overload the muscle. We then stretch out to create a leaner, longer-looking, more graceful physique.

Who is this class for?
This class is suitable for anybody. There are plenty of levelled options for beginners, pre & post natal, and plenty of opportunities to push yourself if you're ready.

Barre Express

Description

The same Barre Basics class, just a quick 30-minute workout for those who're under time pressure. Perfect for those wanting to get moving during their lunch break. 

Please note, we move quicker between tracks with less time for explaining the movements. 

Who is this class for?
For everyone! If you are new, it might may be a little harder to follow as we spend less time explaining movements, another great reason to introduce yourself to your neighbour in class!

Time: 30 minutes

Barre Sculpt

Description

Our sculpt class is low impact and comprises interval training and isometric exercises to reshape and sculpt your body. We incorporate using your own body weight as resistance, combined with small hand weights, bands and the ballet barre to perform high repetitions which overload the muscle. We then stretch out to create a leaner, longer-looking, more graceful physique. 

Each person can be challenged at his or her own level without affecting anyone else’s workout. The moves are low impact but include high-intensity intervals, bodyweight strength work, followed by stretching.

Who is this class for?
This class is suitable for anybody. There are plenty of levelled options for beginners, but plenty of opportunities to push yourself if you're ready.

Barre Stretch

Description

This luxurious 60 minute stretch class releases tired and tight muscles and calms the mind. We pause in the positions to encourage the muscles to fully release, lengthen and detoxify. We use different props and the ballet barre to assist and it's a great class to accompany your weekly barre class and leave you feeling open and calm.
 
Class begins with some basic barre moves and then transitions into a relaxing stretch class to wind up the week.

Who is this class for?
There are no prerequisites and all levels are welcome. This class is hugely complimentary to your other barre classes & extracurriculars and has a greater focus on lengthening and strengthening.

Barre Sweat

Description

High-intensity interval training at the barre. Barre Sweat is a step up from our regular Barre Basics class and is a great way to apply the technique you've been working hard on in your regular classes, to higher-intensity movements. The class is still low-impact but is designed to get the heart racing. (Intermediate-Advanced).

Who is this class for?
This class is designed for those our clients who are ready to take the next step with their barre fitness! It's more cardio-based, but still works through the basic movements you will find in our usual Barre Basics class.

Bro Barre

Starting up January 2021

Description

Barre class? Like, the ballet-dancer workout? Nope. No way. Not a chance. If you're a human of the dude persuasion, that's probably what you're thinking. 

Sure, there's a ballet barre in the class, but don't be fooled thinking you'll be needing to wear a tutu. This workout is all about intensely concentrated, isolated movements, with tons of repetition and very little rest between exercises. All that said, you will still have to plié, which is a fancy French word for very sore quads.

Who is this class for?
There are no prerequisites and all levels are welcome. This class is hugely complimentary to your other training to help with conditioning, balancing the body and stretching tight hamstrings, hips and to assist relieve lower-back pain.

Time: 60 minutes
